OUR HISTORY:

We  began as a partnership under the name of Homemade Baskets in the late 1980's.  In the beginning, we marketed Nantucket Baskets, Reed baskets, Shaker Baskets, New England Baskets, Americana crafts, and a limited number of Shaker furniture through craft fairs across the country and local merchants.  Though our main product line was always Nantucket Baskets (hence our name) we frequently experimented with all types of basket weaving and materials.  We opened shop in 1991 in Central Pennsylvania.  Through contacts with vendors and local artisans, we began to sell other unique product lines that suited our basket collection.  The partners shared a common goal: to provide handcrafted products and to make these fantastic wares more accessible for consumers.

After a several years, the partnership disbanded, but one of the partners remained on board and continued to carry on the business in a family owned environment.  With a new sense of purpose and fresh ideas, the business began looking in 2002 for a way to expand its basket market.  The internet happily provided that outlet. We closed our shop in PA and moved our business to our home base on Long Island, NY.  Despite years of retail experience, we never lost site of our basket roots and it's this devotion to Nantucket Basketry that gave birth to our new business name: Nantucketinc.com. In 2003, our website took our vision to the next level.
